GEE 2023, SIGHTS FROM THE WORLD: ENERGY EFFICIENCY, ACCESSIBILITY

GEE, Global Elevator Exhibition, is also a wide-ranging observatory on the vertical and horizontal mobility market. The sector is in fact going through a phase of profound evolution, with the introduction of increasingly advanced and energy-efficient technologies, as well as proposals adaptable to specific needs and regulations. In this context, we asked some of the companies already registered with GEE how they approach research, experimentation and implementation of emerging technologies also in relation to international regulations.

According to the latest figures published by ANIE (2021), the Elevators and Escalators sector generates a turnover of 1,851 million euros in the domestic market and 2,424 million euros in total turnover. These are important figures, testifying to a significant share that cannot ignore the ongoing global changes in terms of sustainability, accessibility and regulations.

Starting with energy efficiency objectives, which are now central to guaranteeing the sustainability of means of transport and reducing their environmental impact, the vertical and horizontal mobility sector needs solid investment in research and development along this path, also in Italy. Moreover, again according to ANIE data, more than 70% of the lifts in use in our country have been in operation for more than twenty years and almost 50% for more than thirty years.

On the other hand, technology is helping to make lifts and escalators increasingly accessible and suitable for every need, through automation, voice guides, touch screens and remote control systems.

According to Transparency Market Research, an international market intelligence company, the global residential lift industry is expected to grow at a compound annual rate of 7.3 per cent during the period 2021-2031 . This increase is partly attributable to the rise in demand for accessible vertical mobility solutions for all people.

Accessibility and energy efficiency, therefore, represent a development opportunity for the horizontal and vertical mobility market; therefore, we spoke with four of the companies already registered at GEE, Global Elevator Exhibition, and strongly present on the international market, in order to get an overview of the World and the most in-demand and emerging technologies.
